Slate Belt Health & Rehabilitation’s residents received knitted bags from local group

Northampton County, Pennsylvania – Slate Belt Health & Rehabilitation, one of Saber Healthcare Group’s communities, recently received a donation of knitted bags from Needle Arts Guild. The knitted bags are designed to go on the senior residents’ walkers.

Marilyn Barnes, a member of Needle Arts Guild in Warren County, New Jersey, helped sew colorful bags for residents to store their belongings in.

“One of the girls working at Slate Belt is a friend of a friend, and she knew that they needed these,” Barnes said. “We were in the process of doing bags for Warren County, and Slate Belt gave us a sample of what they needed.”

Needle Arts Guild originally started this project before COVID-19, and created 15 bags. Once COVID-19 led to meetings being canceled, the team began making the bags out of the fabrics they had available. While the group could no longer meet in person, they stayed in touch through their phones and computers.

In the past, Needle Arts Guild donated hand-made products to numerous nursing homes. Their group has also made red hats for premature babies as part of an American Heart Association initiative.

Barnes shared that Needle Arts Guild is a group of women who share their talents with each other and try to encourage others to learn different things. The group taught Barnes to crochet and knit and helped her contribute good work to the community.

Saber Healthcare is thankful for the thoughtful donation of knitted bags to our residents from Needle Arts Guild. Our residents at Slate Belt Health & Rehabilitation will use the bags to carry their items with them.
