Bath Creek Estates Continues Art Program Success

The OMA program continues with a successful art show at Bath Creek Estates

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio – Bath Creek Estates recently celebrated 88 pieces of resident art created through Miami University’s Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) Program. The OMA program is an intergenerational program designed to help those with dementia use their artistic talents to draw and paint. Bath Creek Estates opened this creative program to any resident who wants to expand their mind and use art as a form of expression.

Bath Creek Estates holds group sessions throughout the year for OMA to help the residents socialize while creating artwork. They also offer strolling OMA, where the Life Enrichment department goes from room-to-room with a cart of art supplies and visits those residents who may not be able to leave their rooms.

An event open to the public was held on March 9th 2023 and invited families and visitors to come to celebrate the artistic success of the Bath Creek Estates residents. The artwork was selected, matted, and framed by residents using art created from June 2022 to March 2023. The residents participated by arranging artificial flowers to create corsages and name tags. The local Trader Joe’s also donated some flowers to arrange into centerpieces.

“This was our most successful show,” Marie Day, Life Enrichment Director at Bath Creek Estates told us. “We had 88 paintings at the event and sold 75 of them. One of them even went for $100. We are proud of the efforts of our residents, and we’re happy to celebrate their success.”

Day also informed us that they had extra paintings not included in the show, and these works were made available for purchase to those who couldn’t make it. All proceeds are deposited into a separate OMA account to fund future art shows and OMA supplies as needed.

Bath Creek Estates resident, Betty Childers, was asked if she was planning to attend more OMA Groups and responded, “I wouldn’t miss OMA for nothin’.”

Bath Creek Estates currently plans to continue to offer this program and find ways to help their residents stay creative. The success of OMA at Bath Creek Estates has helped the residents explore their creativity and find new talents within themselves.
