7 Foods That Can Improve Vision
Did you know that human eyes can see over one million different colors?1 Our eyes are very remarkable and give us the ability to see the world around us.
It is important to take care of your eyes to ensure healthy vision and eyesight. Here are 7 foods that can improve your vision.
- Carrots. Carrots are great for healthy vision. They are full of vitamin A, which is essential for your eye health. Vitamin A helps your retina see images and objects instead of light rays. Additionally, vitamin A prevents dry eye by keeping your eyes moist.2
- Citrus. Citrus fruits, such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruits, contain vitamin C. Vitamin C plays an important role in ensuring the health of our vision.3 Specifically, vitamin C shields against damage from UV light and cataracts.4
- Greens. Leafy greens are not only a good way to eat healthy, they also benefit your vision. Greens, such as kale and spinach, have lutein5, which is an antioxidant that helps with overall vision and may lower the chances of developing macular degeneration.6 Macular degeneration is an eye disease that impacts your central vision and can affect reading and driving.7
- Oysters. Oysters are very beneficial to your eye health. They have a lot of zinc, which helps with delaying the effects of macular degeneration.8 Zinc also helps the eyes have low-light vision and aids in carrying nutrients to the retina.9
- Salmon. Another seafood dish that is great for your eye health is salmon. Salmon is rich in omega-3s, which is a fatty acid that can lower your chances of macular degeneration, high eye pressure, and dry eye syndrome.10 11
- Nuts. Nuts are great for your eyes because they are full of vitamin E. Vitamin E helps you have a clearer lens and lowers your chances of cataracts and macular degeneration.12
- Eggs. Eggs contain a few nutrients that are great for your eye health. In addition to vitamins C and E, Eggs have zeaxanthin. Zeaxanthin is a nutrient that can help reduce blue light and free radicals in the retina.13 Free radicals are harmful to cells and may cause cancer.14
