How Shift Seekers Provides Career Flexibility

Apr. 7th, 2025

Shift Seekers is an organization partnered with Saber Healthcare Group providing agency work to the affiliated communities. We interviewed Macey Praytor, a PRN at Shift Seekers, to learn more about Shift Seekers and how she works to care for the residents!

Tell Us About Your Background

“My grandmother was one of my main inspirations for becoming a CNA. She became in need of help after a cancer diagnosis, and my family worked hard to provide her with the care she needed. At the time, I was in CNA school reviewing the basics, and I would assist my grandmother with the skills that I was learning whenever I could. After that, I continued my schooling and earned my CNA license with the original dream of working in a hospital. After some interviews, I eventually landed my position at Shift Seekers as a PRN. I love my role, the challenges it brings, as well as the flexibility it provides as I continue to go to school.”

What is Required to Become a CNA?

“I had to take a semester-long course at Davidson Community College. During that semester, part of the certificate included going out into the field and helping at the local nursing homes. I was proud that I was able to get through my tests, and I didn’t think that it was hard at all to go through the process.”

Tell Us About Your Typical Day

“I usually work in the mornings, and I always plan to get there at least twenty minutes before my shift begins. When I clock in, they will give me my assignment, and I will check up on those residents. The residents will tell me what they need, and I will happily go and provide it for them. One of my favorite activities is to help the residents brush their hair because it helps them feel good about their day. I will also do charting and then pass off any necessary information to the other people working there.”

What traits does someone need to become a CNA?

“Patience and respect because this is the residents’ home. We always knock and ask if we can come in before we do. If you respect the residents, then they will respect you back. I also believe being a hard worker is a crucial part of the role because of the many things we juggle daily.”

Tell Us One Thing You Love About Your Job

“I absolutely love the residents and working with their diverse personalities! I have met all types of people, and I always try to be extra nice to the residents without family. I believe that everyone deserves the same care, especially because we don’t know if we will one day end up in a home like that.”

What advice do you have for people who are thinking about joining the nursing field?

“Be patient. Everything is going to work out in the end. If you start from the bottom, you can get the best fit for the nursing field. One of my professors always told us that.”

What are the benefits of working through Shift Seekers?

“As a CNA, I enjoyed getting paid $25/hour for my role! I also only work one holiday right now because Shift Seekers is able to be flexible around my schedule. The pay on the holidays you have to work is also good.”
